Red Ribbon week begins on October 23rd.
(Pick up your Red Ribbon Pin from our office.)
"Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America.
In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Since that time, the campaign has reached millions of U.S. children and families. The National Family Partnership (NFP) and its network of individuals and organizations continue to deliver his message of hope to millions of people every year, through the National Red Ribbon Campaign™."
Focus will be distributing Kindness Rocks into the community to bring joy and awareness. Focus has partnered with local schools to begin sharing the Kindness Rocks message with youth in our community. Feeling loved and accepted is a key asset in the lives of young people. This project not only nurtures that, it also helps us create a more resilient generation that will be more likely to avoid risky behavior and remain drug and alcohol free.
If you see a kindness rock that speaks to you, take it with you and let it be a reminder of the good that is in the world and how important you are. Or share it with someone who also needs to know how important they are.
Tea With the Team
Come visit with the Focus staff over tea or coffee. Visit between 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. or 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and get to know the Focus team. Your visit will include a private tour, free Tea or Coffee and pastries. Don't want to chat, no problem, bring your laptop and work in our space. You will still get the free stuff, and a unique and exciting place to get your work done.
There are two awesome events.
Focus is partnering with The Red Onion Cafe in downtown Racine to promote Red Ribbon Week. Eat at Red Onion and wear red on Tuesday to show your support of substance abuse prevention. What's even more exciting, you can try the Red Ribbon Special for that day. Focus staff will be there between 11:00 and 1:00 p.m. to say hello and give you a red ribbon to show your support.
We will be live.
A conflict arose with the classroom we were going to present in. But we will still be live. Tune in for a personal tour of our office and special interviews with a few of our staff.
From 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. tune into Facebook Live to see a personal tour of Focus with the Executive Director.
Let's Get Social!
Help us spread the word about prevention and healthy choices. Take to social media throughout the day and use these hashtags to spread the message. Tag Focus in your messages to keep us connected.
#GoPastFriday is Focus's campaign geared towards helping teens find healthy and safe things to do on Friday nights. It is important that Teens think about life after Friday and what it would look like if they made bad decisions. This campaign helps inform teens of fun, unique, drug and alcohol free activities they can engage in to keep living healthy lives.
